Nora archaeological ruins

Nearby the town of Pula, we find the archaeological ruins at Nora, an important town founded by the Phoenicians in the 8th century B.C. both as a strategic trade centre on their Mediterranean routes and a key rest- station before tackling the long trip to Brittany. Nora was later conquered by the Carthaginians, great sailors and warriors, and then, following the Punic Wars, fell to the Romans around 238 B.C.

The peninsula,
softly washed by the azure sea, will appeal to both expert and amateur archaeologists. Visitors will find much of the site still well-preserved, including the ruins of the thermal bath with mosaics, the theatre, Carthaginian dwellings and ancient Roman paving stones. The temples are still immersed in history, to say nothing of a splendid nuraghic well, vestige of one of the most mysterious, fascinating cultures in Western history, which, more than three thousand years ago, established the only indigenous kingdom our island has ever known.

After Nora, it is possible to visit the Pula Museum, housing numerous finds of great archaeological interest, such as relics of Carthaginian and Roman pottery, amphorae, coins and glass objects, found during archaeological digs at Nora.
